Please note that the DRP is an ‘eligible charity’ that qualifies by law for tax relief for donations when the donation amounts to €250 or more in any one year.
The arrangements for allowing relief depend on whether (a) the donor is a PAYE taxpayer only or (b) an individual on “self-assessment” (who may also pay a portion of tax under the PAYE tax system) or (c) a company.
Our understanding is that in the case of (a), the tax is given to the Charity. However in the case of (b) and (c) the individual or company must make the claim and - if the claim is accepted - then the individual benefits from the tax relief and the company gets a deduction for the donation (as if it were a trading expense).
